ENCINITAS AND NORTH COAST DEMOCRATIC CLUB

DONATES SUPPLIES TO LOCAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER

In recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Encinitas and North Coast Democratic Club organized a donation drive in October for Carol’s House, a shelter for at-risk women and children. Carol’s House, a 24-bed emergency shelter, was founded more than 30 years ago and is operated by Community Resource Center.

The Club collected items that the shelter requested, including new bedding, linens, apparel and personal hygiene supplies.

Club members Brad Lefkowits and Nancy Hardwick presented the donations to Heather Johnson, the CRC domestic violence program coordinator, and Delaney Milligan-Kahl, domestic violence case manager.

There were more than 15,000 domestic violence calls made to San Diego County law enforcement in 2024. Eight people subsequently died because of domestic violence, seven of them women. Since the establishment of Carol’s House, hundreds of households in need of safety

have been sheltered.

Community Resource Center was established in 1979 by community and business leaders to address homelessness and food insecurity. CRC programs also include rental assistance and shelter, transportation

assistance, food and nutrition services, case management, counseling and more. â€‹
